Volksfest with a marquee on German Unity Day
The Kolkwitz Oktoberfest is Brandenburg's relaxed answer to the Munich Wiesn — smaller, closer, cozier, but with the same potential for ritual: marquee, live music, ceremonial beer tapping, Lederhosen allowed but not mandatory. The organizer is the municipality of Kolkwitz, the date follows German Unity Day, combining a Volksfest with a public holiday weekend.
In 2026, the festival will take place on Friday, October 2nd, and Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, at the Kolkwitz-Center, Berliner Straße 19, 03099 Kolkwitz. Friday is the classic pre-event evening: admission from 7 PM, performance by the live band Scarlett from 8 PM in the heated marquee. On Saturday, the program starts at 11 AM with the traditional ceremonial beer tapping, followed by the amusement park, children's program, and main stage show.
The marquee with a heated interior offers around a thousand seats; long beer tables, Maßkrugs (liter steins), Brezn (pretzels), and Hendl (roast chicken) are standard. The adjacent amusement park features classics like bumper cars, a chain carousel, a Ferris wheel, children's rides, shooting galleries, and candy stalls — smaller than the Munich Wiesn scale, but typically Brandenburg-style and popular.
Kolkwitz is located directly west of Cottbus in the Spree-Neiße district. With its approximately 9,500 inhabitants and twelve districts, the large municipality is one of the largest in Brandenburg in terms of area. Besides the Heimatfest (local festival) and the Kolkwitz Carnival, the Oktoberfest is the central highlight in the club calendar; the KCC (Kolkwitz Carneval Club) is one of the most active traditional customs associations annually.
Since October 3rd is a public holiday, the Oktoberfest can be easily combined with an excursion to the Spreewald, which begins just a 20-minute drive away. Those traveling from Berlin can manage a convenient day trip with a regional train and bus — the last trains back run until late at night.
The detailed program schedule for 2026 will be published by the municipality of Kolkwitz in the summer/fall on gemeinde-kolkwitz.de.
