Open Air at Pineapple Wakepark in Mittelsachsen
Rossau is a small municipality in the Mittelsachsen district, east of Mittweida and Hainichen. What makes the place known beyond the region is the Pineapple Wakepark — a water ski and wakeboard facility on a lake that holds a firm place in the Central German water sports scene. The Kolibri Festival utilizes this special location: wakeboard and water ski action for participants during the day, festival operations with stages, light, and pyrotechnics in the evening.
The program focuses on a clear identity: 90s and 2000s hits, electronic beats, and Mallorca sound — not a niche festival, but a party mix for a broad audience from Saxony and neighboring areas. LOONA brings international dance-pop hits as a live act, the DJ duo Anstandslos & Durchgeknallt represents German house music from the late 2010s, Breitner for the Mallorca sound of summer classics, and HouseKaspeR for house music with a pyro show.
What sets the Kolibri Festival apart from many other festivals in the region is the combination of water sports and open-air stages. Those who wish can book a wakeboard or water ski session in the morning and then stay for the festival. The lake serves as a backdrop, and the open meadows at the wakepark become the festival grounds.
Mittelsachsen is a district located at the transition between the Erzgebirge foothills, the Mulde valley, and the lowlands. The region is culturally and economically shaped by Mittweida and Freiberg, with the Bergakademie (Mining Academy) and its mining tradition. Visitors to the Kolibri Festival can combine their stay with visits to Freiberg or Mittweida.
During the day, wakeboard and water ski sessions take place by the lake; the festival grounds open at 5:30 PM. Two stages, over twelve acts, a program featuring 90s/2000s hits, electronic music, house, and Mallorca sound. Lighting and pyrotechnics complete the open-air experience.
