125 Years of the Fire Brigade by Königssee Lake
The Königssee Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1901 and celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2026. It protects the idyllic, yet challenging, operational area around the world-famous Königssee lake in Schönau am Königssee, Berchtesgadener Land district, due to its tourism and alpine location. Simultaneously, the Music and Youth Band celebrates its 40th birthday, and the Friends Association its 25th.
Festival Grounds with a Watzmann View
The festival will be held at the Königssee car park on Seestraße — the main entrance to Königssee. This makes the 2026 festival one of Bavaria's most scenically spectacular Volksfeste (popular festivals), with the lake shore in sight and the Watzmann massif as a natural backdrop.
Five-Day Programme
The festival programme begins on Wednesday with the 'Spritzenhausparty goes Zelt'. Thursday is 'Tag der Betriebe' (Companies' Day) with the Berchtesgadener Buam. Friday features performances by Saugschlauchmusi and Saustoimusi (tickets via Ticket Scharf). Saturday is Family Day with vintage fire engines from all generations, followed by the grand evening celebration. Sunday concludes with the large parade of fire brigades and associations from the Berchtesgadener Land region.
Berchtesgadener Land
Schönau am Königssee is located at the southern end of Königssee lake in the Berchtesgadener Land district — right at the entrance to Berchtesgaden National Park. With only 5,500 inhabitants, it is one of Bavaria's smaller municipalities but is one of the best-known tourist destinations in Southern Germany due to Königssee lake and the Ice Chapel. The festival falls in the middle of the peak summer season — many festival-goers will be holidaymakers.
Königssee FF Fest — edition 2026
The 2026 dates are officially confirmed: Wednesday, August 19, to Sunday, August 23. The organizer is the Königssee Volunteer Fire Brigade. Inquiries and table reservations can be made via [email protected].
The programme is structured as a classic Bavarian anniversary festival, with musical highlights at a marquee level and a grand parade on Sunday, in which fire brigades and associations from the entire Berchtesgadener Land region will participate.

Getting There
RVO bus 841 from Berchtesgaden to Königssee (final stop Königssee/Parkplatz). By car via B 305/B 20 to Schönau, then follow signs for Königssee. Parking at the festival grounds will be severely restricted during the festival days — travel by public transport is strongly recommended.
Admission
Entry to the festival grounds is free. Companies' Day (Thursday) from 5 PM — table reservations required. Saustoimusi concert (Friday) from 6:30 PM requires a ticket (Ticket Scharf).
Accommodation
Hotels, guesthouses, and holiday apartments in Schönau, Berchtesgaden, and Bischofswiesen; camping by Königssee lake is possible. Peak summer season — early booking recommended.
