Four concerts in the baroque monastery ensemble
The Sommerklänge series at Stift Neuzelle each year brings selected musicians from various genres to the baroque monastery ensemble in the southern Brandenburg municipality of Neuzelle. In 2026, four concerts are scheduled — all at 7 PM, each with its own distinct musical profile. The venues vary depending on the weather and the concert, taking place in the Orangery (with a café in the baroque garden), the Refectory (for inclement weather), and the monastery garden (for open-air performances).
Program 2026
Saturday, June 6, 2026, 7 PM — Die Couchies. Beautiful hits from the 1920s to 1950s, with the swing rhythms and charm of early entertainment music. A nostalgic start with songs that many grandparents still remember.
Saturday, June 13, 2026, 7 PM — Caroline du Bled & scorbüt. Parisian chansonnière Caroline du Bled, together with the ensemble scorbüt, forms an extraordinary duo of French chansons and German sea shanties — bridging the two musical traditions, born from the Berlin chanson scene.
Saturday, July 4, 2026, 7:00 PM–8:45 PM — Kat Baloun. American singer and harmonica player Kat Baloun, based in Berlin, brings a powerful mix of Blues, Soul, and Rock to Neuzelle. Her impressive vocal performance and virtuoso harmonica playing are her trademarks.
Saturday, August 29, 2026, 7:00 PM–8:45 PM — Ajabrasil. Pure Brazilian music: Samba, Bossa, Forró, Reggae, and Latin influences. The ensemble Ajabrasil has been a fixture in the German world music scene for years and concludes the Sommerklänge series with a rhythmic finale.
The Stift Neuzelle — Brandenburg's Baroque Gem
The Stift Neuzelle is one of Northern Germany's most significant baroque ensembles — founded in 1268 as a Cistercian monastery and baroque-style renovated in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is the only monastery in Brandenburg to have survived the Reformation unscathed and was only secularized in 1817. Today, it is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status, houses the monastery brewery (the last active monastery brewery in the East German states), and, with its baroque gardens, is a major tourist attraction in the Oder-Spree region.
Neuzelle — Monastery Village in Southern Brandenburg
The municipality of Neuzelle is located in the Oder-Spree district, in the very south of Brandenburg, on the border with Poland and just a few kilometers from the Oder River. The village is almost entirely shaped by the monastery ensemble — the baroque collegiate church, the monastery gardens, the Refectory, and the Orangery, along with the monastery brewery restaurant, form an architectural complex unparalleled in Brandenburg.
Concert Venues Depending on the Weather
The Orangery is the main concert venue — a light-filled baroque café in the monastery garden with excellent acoustics. In fair weather, concerts are moved to the monastery garden — a unique open-air experience against a baroque backdrop. In case of rain, the Refectory (the monks' historic dining hall) serves as the alternative venue.
