Three chamber concerts in the library hall of the Baroque monastery in Upper Swabia
The former Premonstratensian monastery of Schussenried in Bad Schussenried (Biberach district, Upper Swabia) is one of the most important Baroque complexes in Southern Germany. The famous library hall — designed by Dominikus Zimmermann, decorated with stucco by Franz Joseph Spiegler and frescoes by Joseph Wannenmacher — is one of the most beautiful monastery libraries in Germany. Its wall shelves still house thousands of volumes today, and the gallery and column architecture make the room a stage that has been used for chamber concerts for decades.
The 2026 concert program includes three evenings. The piano recital on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 7:00 PM will kick things off: Two prize winners of national music competitions will perform a joint program — repertoire and soloists will be published in advance on the monastery's website. This will be followed by two chamber music evenings with participants of the 5th International Chamber Music Academy (ICMA): Monday, July 13, and Wednesday, July 15, 2026, both starting at 7:00 PM — young top musicians from all over the world who will study works from the string quartet and piano trio repertoire as part of their academy and perform them publicly at the end of the academy.
The International Chamber Music Academy is a summer training program for string and piano players from leading music conservatories in Europe and North America. Selected scholarship holders meet annually in Schussenried for intensive weeks of rehearsal — under the guidance of renowned chamber musicians — and present their results in two public concerts. The Klosterkonzerte are one of the few opportunities to experience live music in the library hall.
Parallel to the Klosterkonzerte, the Great State Exhibition of Baden-Württemberg will take place in Schussenried in autumn 2026 from September 26 to November 22, 2026 — another opportunity to visit the monastery. Bad Schussenried has a population of around 8,800 and is located on the edge of the Upper Swabian hill country, just under 20 km from Biberach an der Riß and 30 km from Ulm.

The series opens with a piano recital featuring two prize winners of international music competitions. The two subsequent concerts on July 13 and 15 will showcase participants of the 5th International Chamber Music Academy (ICMA), which holds its summer course annually in Schussenried.
