Folk Music in the Castle Courtyard

Schloss Guteneck has perched above the Naabtal valley in the northern Oberpfalz since the Middle Ages, between Nabburg and Schwarzenfeld. The small castle complex – now a venue for events – regularly opens its gates in summer for concerts and cultural events. One of the special highlights is the summer serenade with the Naabtal Echo, one of the region's best-known folk music groups. In 2026, it will take place on Sunday, August 16.

The Naabtal Echo

The Naabtal Echo belongs to the series of traditional Bavarian folk music ensembles from the Oberpfalz. The group cultivates classic pieces of Bavarian folk music – Polka, Waltz, Boarischer – and offers its audience a cross-section of the folk music tradition of the region between Amberg, Weiden, and Schwandorf. At the serenade in Guteneck, they will play their favorite pieces in the relaxed atmosphere of the castle courtyard.

Schloss Guteneck – A Venue in the Oberpfalz

Schloss Guteneck is today one of the most active venues in the northern Oberpfalz: musical dinners, concerts, the famous Christmas market (Weihnachtsmarkt) in Advent, summer serenades. The castle courtyard offers a charming open-air stage with a view of the Naabtal valley. The municipality of Guteneck (district Schwandorf) has just under 1,000 inhabitants and is located in the middle of one of Bavaria's quietest landscapes.

Anyone looking for a quiet Sunday evening on August 16 will find the ideal format here: gates open at 5:30 PM, catering in the castle courtyard, concert from 7:30 PM. Free entry – an unusual privilege for such small summer serenades, which the castle administration maintains as a gesture to the region.
