Indie, Punk, and Alternative Festival at Nagelshof — two days of underground sound in Emsland
The Kleinstadtfestival originated in 2018 from the environment of the Meppen youth center JAM — a festival by young people for young people and for everyone who doesn't want to belong to the mainstream festival clientele. Behind the festival is the volunteer-run association Kleinstadtkinder e.V., which manages the entire event from program planning to setup and dismantling independently. This makes the Kleinstadtfestival one of the few truly subcultural festivals in Emsland.
The confirmed program for 2026 (according to the organizer's website kleinstadtfestival.de/lineup2026) shows the full spectrum of the festival — from established Indie and Punk acts to local underground bands:
The festival takes place on the open grounds at Nagelshof in Meppen — a charming, less formal venue that perfectly matches the festival's atmosphere. Here, the stage, bars, food trucks, and hangout areas are situated among trees and meadows, and the short distances make the festival feel familial and approachable.
The Kleinstadtfestival is a cultural statement: a declaration that a vibrant subculture is possible even in a small town like Meppen. The festival is perceived by the region's younger generation as an important place of identification and has gained supra-regional attention in the German indie scene.
The 2026 edition consistently continues the festival's DIY ethos: handpicked bands, short distances, authentic atmosphere. With tickets starting at moderate prices, the festival remains deliberately accessible to a young audience.
