Musical Summer Evening in the Historic Citizens' Park of the City — Saturday, June 20, 2026
When the loudspeakers in Frankfurt (Oder)'s Lennépark switch on Saturday, June 20, 2026, the 16th Kleine Parknacht of the Lennépark Citizens' Initiative will begin — one of Frankfurt's most heartwarming summer festivals. Since its first edition in 2010, this neighbourhood festival has become a firm fixture in the event calendar. Over 2,000 visitors attend annually, and more than 300 volunteers are involved in setup, programming, and serving drinks. Admission is free — financed by donations that directly support the park's upkeep.
The venue is Lennépark, one of Brandenburg's most beautiful citizens' parks. Laid out in the 19th century according to plans by the renowned garden architect Peter Joseph Lenné — also the creator of Berlin's Tiergarten and many other royal Prussian parks — it forms the green heart of Frankfurt. Old tree-lined avenues, winding paths, small bodies of water, and carefully composed sightlines make the park the ideal backdrop for a summer festival that celebrates precisely this connection between the park concept and the community.
Based on experience, the Kleine Parknacht programme follows a classic arc from late afternoon until sunset. Traditionally, the Frankfurt choir PopChorners kicks things off with a concert opening. The programme then unfolds with dance, music, and performance acts — the dance group VIVADANZA has been a regular fixture for years. From the afternoon onwards, the children's programme runs with games, craft and face-painting stations, a treasure hunt, and puppet theatre, alongside a reading marathon. The grand finale is the large choir concert by the Singakademie Frankfurt (Oder).
Two special installations characterise the Parknacht: The Path of Light by Lebenshilfe Frankfurt (Oder) runs as an illuminated line through the park, making inclusive art visible. The Green Art and Book Garden offers a reading and exhibition area where visitors can relax between concerts. Both contributions are expressions of the Citizens' Initiative's diversity — music, art, inclusion, and reading culture share the same festival evening.
What makes the Kleine Parknacht extraordinary is its completely voluntary organisation. Over 300 Frankfurt residents — from schoolchildren to retirees — set up the festival grounds, man the stands, help with serving drinks, and organise setup and dismantling. The Lennépark Citizens' Initiative also works annually on the preservation and maintenance of the park — donations from the Parknacht go directly into park projects such as the renovation of park benches in the southern Lennépark, which is planned for spring 2026.
Frankfurt (Oder), Brandenburg's easternmost major city, is located directly on the Polish border, opposite Słubice. With just under 57,000 inhabitants, it is the centre of the German-Polish border region and is home to the Europa-Universität Viadrina, one of East Germany's best-known universities. Lennépark, located in the city centre, is its green hub — once a year, the Kleine Parknacht turns it into a stage for a community festival that is exemplary in its scale and organisation for German neighbourhood engagement.
In 2026, the 16th Kleine Parknacht continues the tradition of summer festivals organised by the Lennépark Citizens' Initiative since 2010. In Lennépark Frankfurt (Oder), one of Brandenburg's most beautiful citizens' parks, over 300 volunteers organise a musical and festive summer evening with concerts, a children's programme, art installations, and catering.
Most importantly: a festival that puts the park and its maintenance at the centre — donations from the evening will go towards park projects such as the renovation of park benches in the southern Lennépark. The 2026 programme will be published in spring.
