Medieval market with fire show, staged combat, and children's knight tournament in the Sinzig Castle Park
With its old trees, wide meadows, and striking castle, the Sinzig Castle Park provides an ideal backdrop for a medieval market. For three days, a small world of its own emerges between campfires and market stalls, where reenactment groups, craftspeople, and musicians bring medieval life to life. Unlike purely commercial markets, the Barbarossamarkt focuses on atmosphere, knowledge transfer, and a strong family program.
Staged combatants in armor face off several times a day, alongside archery demonstrations and riders. In the evening, fire shows impressively stage the medieval atmosphere. Medieval bands provide the musical accompaniment throughout the festival days – sometimes acoustic, sometimes with electric amplification.
At the market stalls, craftspeople demonstrate traditional techniques: blacksmithing, pottery, leatherwork, weaving, felting. The blacksmith's forge is a particular attraction, where visitors can directly witness the spectacle of flying sparks. Those interested can try their hand at various stations.
A dedicated children's program makes the Barbarossamarkt particularly attractive for families. Children can try blacksmithing, carving, juggling, archery, and compete in their own contests at the children's knight tournament. The playful impartation of medieval ways of life is a hallmark of the festival.
Reenactment groups, craftspeople, and musicians travel from all over Germany. The Castle Park offers ample space for several stages, campfires, blacksmiths, and a large market area.
The complete detailed program for 2026 will be published by the City of Sinzig before the market. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
