Atmospheric Advent market on Kirchplatz in the historic cloth-making town center
Bramsche, once an important center of cloth-making on the Mittelland Canal, shows its most atmospheric side during Advent. The Christmas market around the Kirchplatz with the medieval St. Martin's Church forms the heart of the pre-Christmas town. Wooden huts, illuminated fir trees, and the warm light of the stalls create the typical Advent atmosphere that connects generations of Bramsche residents with their hometown.
Local clubs, schools, church communities, welfare organizations, and craftspeople present themselves at the market stalls. The gastronomic offerings include mulled wine, punch, bratwurst, potato pancakes, lard cakes, candied almonds, and Christmas pastries. Especially on Advent weekends, there is a lively atmosphere with musical accompaniment by brass choirs, wind ensembles, and school choirs.
Families will find a carousel for children, craft activities, and occasional visits from St. Nicholas at the market. Complementary Advent concerts, readings, and pre-Christmas services take place in St. Martin's Church and the neighboring Tuchmacher Museum (Cloth-making Museum). The exact dates will be communicated by the city administration.
The festival usually runs from Friday evening to Sunday evening. The market opens on Friday with the ceremonial lighting of the Advent tree.
The village of huts is staffed by local clubs, church communities, and craftspeople. St. Martin's Church is available for Advent services and concerts.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the fall. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: opening concert on Friday, St. Nicholas and family activities on Saturday, Advent music in the church on Sunday.
