Kite Flying on Wangerooge Beach
The Wangerooge Kite Festival takes advantage of the island's ideal wind conditions: stable North Sea winds, wide visibility, and the beach promenade as the perfect stage. Over two days, kite flyers present their creations, from small children's kites to show kites several meters in size.
Show Kites as the Main Attraction
The large show kites shaped like whales, octopus tentacles, squid, and colorful creatures are the visual highlight. They float in the sky for minutes, capturing the attention of all beach visitors.
Acrobatic Stunt Kites
Stunt kite pilots demonstrate true aerial choreography: loops, pirouettes, and synchronized flight patterns with two or four lines. Accompanied by music, these performances become genuine open-air shows.
Family Event
The kite festival is family-friendly: children can bring their own kites and fly them, and kite enthusiasts offer tips on setup and safe flying.
Platz am Meer as the Festival Location
The Platz am Meer on the Upper Beach Promenade offers optimal conditions: plenty of space, clear views, and proximity to cafes and snack bars. The island atmosphere makes the festival a special experience.
Kite Festival Wangerooge — edition 2026
The 2026 edition continues the family-friendly concept of previous years. With two festival days and six hours of programming each, there is ample time to utilize optimal flying conditions even with changing wind patterns.
