About Kirmes Rodder

The Kirmes in Rodder is a traditional village festival in the small Brohltal district, celebrated every year in mid-August over three days. Around the Rodder community center, residents and guests from neighboring towns in the Brohltal administrative district come together to celebrate the Kirmes with music, food and drink, games, and conviviality. Like many Kirmes festivals in the Brohltal, the Rodder festival has its roots in Catholic tradition of the Kirchweih (church consecration anniversary) and is today an expression of the vibrant village community. From August 15th to 17th, 2026, the Kirmes will open its gates — three days of Eifel tradition on a small scale, but with great warmth.

Rodder — a small district with a great tradition of associations

Rodder is one of the smaller districts of the Niederzissen municipality in the Brohltal administrative district. Despite its size, the village has an active community of associations that regularly organize festivals and events at the community center. The Kirmes in mid-August is the social highlight of the village year, bringing together residents and guests from the surrounding towns of the Brohltal administrative district.

Kirmes tradition in the Brohltal

The Kirmes has its origins in the Catholic tradition of the Kirchweih celebration, the annual commemoration of the consecration of the local parish church. In the Brohltal and the Eifel region, the Kirmes is a traditional village festival that often begins with a festive church service and extends over several days. Festive parades, music bands, marquee events, and social evenings characterize the program.

Three days around the community center

The Rodder Kirmes program runs from Saturday, August 15th, to Monday, August 17th, 2026. The community center and its outdoor area form the heart of the festival. Saturday typically features the opening of the marquee, followed by a dance evening with live music or a DJ. Sunday offers a festive church service, a morning pint (Frühschoppen), and a family program with children's activities. Monday concludes with the traditional Kirmes farewell or 'Kirmesbegraben' (Kirmes burial).

Brohltal and Vulkaneifel

Rodder is located at the transition between the Brohltal valley and the Vulkaneifel, a scenically attractive region with volcanic maars, high moors, and ancient beech forests. Kirmes guests can combine their stay with hikes or bike tours. The nearby Laacher See lake, Maria Laach Abbey, and the hiking trails around Bad Breisig are popular excursion destinations.

Identity and village community

Kirmes festivals like the one in Rodder are an expression of a vibrant village community that cherishes its traditions and passes them on to new generations. The associations work on a voluntary basis in the preparation and execution, and the proceeds of the festival often benefit charitable causes or the work of the associations.

Kirmes Rodder — edition 2026

Saturday evening is usually dedicated to a dance event, Sunday features a festive church service and morning pint, and Monday concludes with the traditional Kirmes farewell. Admission to the daytime events is free; admission may be charged for the evening events.
