Double Celebration 2026: Kirmes and 100 Years of Fire Brigade

Primsweiler, a district of the municipality of Schmelz in the Saarlouis district, is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its Volunteer Fire Brigade in 2026. The anniversary celebration on the eve (May 22, 2026) leads directly into the traditional Pentecost Kirmes, which takes place from May 23 to 25 on the sports field. The organizing community consists of three local clubs: SC Primsweiler (Sports Club), FFW Primsweiler (Fire Brigade), and SFV Primsweiler (Sports Friends Club).

Saarland Pentecost Tradition

The Kirmes Primsweiler is a typical Saarland village fair held on the Pentecost weekend – a date that regularly falls in May or June in the Saarland event calendar, depending on the date of Pentecost. Three days of folk festival with a beer tent, music, and family activities characterize the weekend.

Club Gastronomy on the Sports Field

A festival tent and food stalls are set up on the Primsweiler sports field for three days. The clubs offer Saarland specialties – Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck) from the stone grill, Lyoner sausage, fries, bratwurst, salads, coffee, and cake – as well as cold beer and non-alcoholic drinks. The proceeds go to the clubs' youth work and the fire brigade's technical equipment.

100 Years of FFW Primsweiler

The anniversary on Friday, May 22, 2026, will be celebrated separately – with a ceremonial act, flag consecration, parade, and a concert by the Bergkapelle Saar (Mountain Band Saar). Further program points follow on the weekend with fire brigade demonstrations, presentations by the youth fire brigade, and a solemn High Mass on Pentecost Sunday.

Primsweiler and the Saarschleifenland

Primsweiler is located in the Saarschleifenland (Saar Loop region) in western Saarland, about 20 km north of Saarlouis and 25 km east of the famous Saar Loop near Mettlach. The districts of Schmelz are characterized by their intact club structure and rural location on the Litermont mountain. Visitors to the Kirmes can combine their stay with hikes on the Litermont-Sagenweg (Legend Trail) or an excursion to the Saar Loop.
