In early September, the historic old town center of Ottweiler transforms into a multi-day town fair: amusement rides, live bands on Friday and Saturday evenings, food stalls, and catering by local clubs characterize the Volksfest (popular festival) in the Neunkirchen district. The small Saar town combines half-timbered houses, a castle, and a fair atmosphere during the Kirmes (fair).

The Kirmes Ottweiler 2026 runs for five days in the historic town center. Live bands on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM, amusement rides, and catering by local clubs throughout the festival.

The musical program on Friday and Saturday evenings is curated through band applications – applications can be submitted to the Tourist Information office by the end of June 2026. The weekdays, Sunday to Tuesday, are quieter, with amusement rides and catering by local clubs.

Getting There

By train: Ottweiler station is directly on the RB line Saarbrücken–Trier–Koblenz. From there, it's about a 5-minute walk to the town center. By car: A1 or A8, take the Ottweiler or Neunkirchen exit, then follow the signs.

Tip

Before or after visiting the fair: Take a stroll through the half-timbered old town and to Ottweiler Castle. The historic town wall and the castle garden design are worth seeing.

The town of Ottweiler seeks new bands for the fair every year – band applications are accepted via the website (including band profiles, audio/video samples, and fee proposals). This ensures a diverse musical program and provides a stage for regional bands that is hard to find elsewhere. Genres range from rock and cover band classics to Schlager.

Catering by Local Clubs and Amusement Rides

As with most town fairs in Saarland, the culinary offerings are a mix of classic amusement rides and catering by local clubs. Local clubs operate stalls, with proceeds going into their treasuries – a proven form of financing for popular festivals. "Schwenker" (grilled meat skewers) from charcoal grills, Lyoner sausages, crêpes, and cold beer are part of the standard fare.
