Traditional town fair in the historic town center of Ottweiler
With its well-preserved medieval town center, the former residential palace of the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken, and the historic town wall, Ottweiler is considered one of the most beautiful small towns in Saarland. The town is located in the Neunkirchen district on the Blies river and has just over 14,000 inhabitants. Despite its small size, Ottweiler maintains an active event calendar – the town fair in early September is one of the highlights of the year.
The Kirmes Ottweiler 2026 runs from Friday, September 4th to Tuesday, September 8th – five days with different focuses. While the weekend is musically characterized by live bands (Friday and Saturday evenings, approximately 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM), the event winds down more relaxed on weekdays.
The town of Ottweiler seeks new bands for the fair every year – band applications are accepted via the website (including band profiles, audio/video samples, and fee proposals). This ensures a diverse musical program and provides a stage for regional bands that is hard to find elsewhere. Genres range from rock and cover band classics to Schlager.
As with most town fairs in Saarland, the culinary offerings are a mix of classic amusement rides and catering by local clubs. Local clubs operate stalls, with proceeds going into their treasuries – a proven form of financing for popular festivals. "Schwenker" (grilled meat skewers) from charcoal grills, Lyoner sausages, crêpes, and cold beer are part of the standard fare.
The Neunkirchen district is located in the eastern center of Saarland and, with just under 130,000 inhabitants, is the second-smallest district in Germany by population. Ottweiler, along with Neunkirchen and Eppelborn, forms the cultural focal point of the region. The Kirmes is an occasion to experience Ottweiler's small-town atmosphere – the historic old town is worth a stroll.
The musical program on Friday and Saturday evenings is curated through band applications – applications can be submitted to the Tourist Information office by the end of June 2026. The weekdays, Sunday to Tuesday, are quieter, with amusement rides and catering by local clubs.
Specific band selection will be published on ottweiler.de in summer 2026.
