Traditional village fair with fire brigade festival in the Maifeld district of Naunheim
Naunheim, one of the smaller villages in the Maifeld region between the Moselle and the Eifel, belongs to the town of Münstermaifeld in the Maifeld collective municipality within the district of Mayen-Koblenz. Like many Maifeld villages, Naunheim cherishes its traditional village fair (Kirmes) as the most important social event of the year. The combination with the fire brigade festival is typical for the region: the volunteer fire brigade bears a significant part of the organization and uses the festival to foster community spirit and recruit new members.
For three days, from Friday to Sunday (June 12th to 14th, 2026), the village center transforms into a festival ground. A festival tent with catering forms the heart of the event – here, residents, former Naunheim locals, and guests from neighboring villages come together. Small rides, fairground stalls with sweets and games create the Kirmes atmosphere. The fire brigade itself presents its vehicles and equipment, often combined with demonstrations.
The musical program focuses on folk festival and dance music. Friday evening often kicks off the festival week with a disco or a party band. Saturday brings classic festival music with a live band or DJ and a longer evening in the festival tent. Sunday is dedicated to the 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) with brass music, lunch, and a relaxed family afternoon with coffee and cake, catering by local clubs, and a children's program.
These Maifeld Kirmes festivals have a special charm that goes beyond mere festivity: they are meeting points for generations, an occasion for former residents to visit their hometowns, a stage for local clubs, and a gathering point for the volunteer firefighters. Designed with free admission and low barriers, they appeal to a village audience but are also open to visitors from surrounding Maifeld villages and tourists.
For holidaymakers in the Maifeld – a scenically attractive plateau between the Moselle and the Eifel with the historic collegiate church in Münstermaifeld, Burg Eltz castle in close proximity, and a dense network of hiking and cycling trails – the Naunheim Kirmes offers an authentic glimpse into the region's village life and an opportunity to chat with locals.
The 2026 edition continues the tradition of the Naunheim Kirmes. The local community and the Volunteer Fire Brigade Naunheim are jointly organizing the festival weekend. A detailed program will be published shortly before the event via local notices and the Maifeld event calendar. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
