Gimte — District of Hann. Münden with its Own Festival Tradition
Gimte is one of the districts of the city of Hann. Münden and is located north of the city center on the banks of the Werra river. With its approximately 2,000 inhabitants, Gimte has preserved its own village identity and a lively club life over the centuries. The annual Kirmes is the highlight of this club life and an event that brings the entire village together.
ARGE Gimter Kirmes as Organizer
Behind the organization of the Kirmes is the ARGE Gimter Kirmes — an association of several local clubs that pool their resources to put on the festival annually. This collaborative organization is typical of village Kirmes traditions and ensures that the festival remains in the hands of the village community and does not become a purely commercial event.
Three Days of Festivities from Friday to Sunday
The 2026 Kirmes extends over three days: Friday, September 4th, Saturday, September 5th, and Sunday, September 6th. Each day has its own character — from the festive opening evening on Friday to the big festival Saturday with live music and dancing, and the family Sunday with a morning pint, children's program, and parade.
Music, Culinary Delights, and Family Fun
The program of the Gimter Kirmes follows the proven cornerstones of a village fair: live music with bands or DJs, culinary stands with bratwurst, fries, steaks, cakes, and beer, a festival tent for evening events, and a family program for the youngest visitors. Clubs, schools, and private individuals from Gimte participate with stands and activities.
Embedded in the Local Club Life
The Kirmes is more than just a folk festival — it is an expression of the village community and an occasion where people returning home from all over the world come back to Gimte to meet family and friends. This function as a family reunion makes the Kirmes a particularly unifying experience.
