Traditional four-day tent kirmes with Bavarian Evening, Kirmesbaum and Frühschoppen
The Kirmes Dachsenhausen is a prime example of how a small village preserves and enlivens its traditions. Located in the Westerwald region above the Middle Rhine Valley, Dachsenhausen is one of those places where the Kirmes festival is still celebrated in its original form – with a clear three-day schedule passed down through generations.
Friday evening kicks off with a Bavarian Evening: Bavarian music, blue-and-white tablecloths, pretzels, roast chicken, beer steins – a beloved start that opens up the atmosphere.
Saturday is dedicated to the Kirmesbaum (festival pole). The traditional raising of the decorated, maypole-like trunk is a village highlight, accomplished with great strength, skill, and collective effort. In the evening, Abendmusik (evening music) follows with live bands or a DJ.
Sunday begins with the church service in the local church, followed by the Frühschoppen (morning pint) in the festival tent – a meeting point for families, older residents, and former Dachsenhausen locals returning for the kirmes.
Monday brings the Autumn Market: peddler stalls, regional products, small attractions for children, and the winding down of the kirmes.
The music bands Mühlbachtaler and Lorcher Schlossberg provide the musical backdrop over the four days – both well-known ensembles from the wider region.
Estimated date for 2026: October 18th–21st, 2026 (3rd/4th weekend of October), building on the previous year's reference.
The 2026 edition continues the classic four-day schedule of the Dachsenhausen Kirmes. The festival exemplifies the vibrant village culture of the Westerwald.
