Lower Franconian Village Kirchweih at the Festival Grounds in the Schweinfurt District
The Kirchweih Üchtelhausen is one of the fixed traditional events in the Franconian district of Schweinfurt. Organized by DJK Üchtelhausen e.V. — a sports and cultural association with a long tradition in the municipality — the festival transforms the festival grounds at Schweinfurter Straße 23 into a meeting point for the residents of Üchtelhausen, its districts Hesselbach, Madenhausen, Ottenhausen, Thomashof, Weipoltshausen, Zell, and neighboring communities in the northern Schweinfurt district, in the state of Bavaria, for four days annually.
The Kirchweih follows the classic pattern of Lower Franconian village celebrations: raising the Kirchweih tree on the festival grounds, a festive church service for the patron saint of the parish church, a parade of the Kirchweih couples in Franconian traditional dress, festival tent evenings with live music (dance music, Schlager, party music), a festive church service, and a family day with activities for children. Characteristic is the close connection between the sports club, the parish, and the Kirchweih society (Kerwabuam and Kerwamadla) — a typically Franconian constellation that puts the village at the center for four days.
DJK (Deutsche Jugendkraft) Üchtelhausen is more than just a sports club: it also organizes the annual Kirchweih at the Üchtelhausen festival grounds, manages the 'Gäßbockelf' as a club department, and is the driving force behind the village's traditional customs. The annual Kirchweih is the club's most important event and significantly finances DJK's sports and youth work.
The municipality of Üchtelhausen has around 4,000 inhabitants and is located in the north of the Schweinfurt district, about 10 kilometers north of the district town of Schweinfurt. It comprises the main town of Üchtelhausen and seven districts in a rural, low mountain landscape transitioning to the Haßberge hills. The Kirchweih is the municipality's most important annual festival and a meeting point for those who work in the Schweinfurt industrial region.
The Kirchweih Üchtelhausen 2026 runs for four days from Friday, September 11th, to Monday, September 14th, at the DJK Üchtelhausen festival grounds (Schweinfurter Straße 23). Opening on Friday evening with the raising of the Kirchweih tree and the start of the festival tent. Saturday and Sunday feature a festive church service, the parade of the Kirchweih couples in Franconian traditional dress, festival tent evenings with live music, and a family day. Monday concludes the festival with a morning pint and winding down.
The detailed program for 2026 will be announced in the summer by DJK Üchtelhausen via the club website and social media (Facebook, Instagram @djk_uechtelhausen).
