Franconian Kirchweih with large Oldtimer Meeting
The Kirchweih Mühlhausen with Oldtimer Meeting is a traditional festival in Mühlhausen an der Sulz, a municipality in the district of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz in the administrative region of Upper Palatinate in Bavaria. The festival combines Franconian-Upper Palatinate Kirchweih customs (Kirwa) with a regionally renowned Oldtimer meeting, which has been held since 1992.
The Kirchweih lasts from Thursday to Monday. The program includes the raising of the Kirchweih tree, the tapping ceremony, a senior citizens' afternoon, a children's afternoon, and the tree auction to conclude. These customs characterize the convivial Kirchweih festival and are deeply rooted in the village traditions of the Upper Palatinate.
The highlight is the Oldtimer meeting on Kirchweih Sunday. Since 1992, Mühlhausen has been a magnet for fans of historic vehicles of all kinds: up to 500 cars, motorcycles, tractors, and trucks are presented. The meeting begins in the morning at the festival grounds on Bahnhofstraße; admission is free.
The combination of traditional Kirwa and a large Oldtimer meeting makes the festival a special event in the district of Neumarkt. It attracts both tradition enthusiasts and Oldtimer lovers from all over the Upper Palatinate and beyond.
