Traditional Gasthaus Kirchweih in Middle Franconia with the famous Stuhlreiten (chair riding)
The Kirchweih in Lehrberg dates back to the year 1059, when Bishop Gundekar II consecrated the parish church of St. Margarethen. Since then, the market town in the Ansbach district has celebrated its Kerwa every year in September – one of the most traditional Kirchweihen in all of Middle Franconia. Even 60 years ago, the people of Lehrberg knew how to celebrate, and today visitors are still welcomed into the cheerful village community with food and drink.
Lehrberg celebrates a typical Gasthaus Kirchweih: the inns of the town are the heart of the festival. Festivities begin on Thursday, sometimes even Wednesday evening, with a rich culinary offering. The Lehrberg innkeepers serve Franconian specialties – Bratwürste, Schäufele, Steckerlfisch – and Franconian beer in a convivial atmosphere. The event kicks off with a festive church service accompanied by local and friendly brass bands.
The undisputed highlight of the Kirchweih is the Stuhlreiten on Kirchweih Monday at 12 PM. This extraordinary custom is known far beyond the municipal borders and attracts visitors from the region year after year. In 2025, the 60th anniversary of the Stuhlreiten was celebrated – with guests from the partner municipality of Allassac (France). Kirchweih Monday traditionally begins with a Frühschoppen (morning pint) and culminates in the grand Stuhlreiten.
On the festival grounds at Rezatstraße, showmen ensure a Kirchweih atmosphere: children's carousel, lucky dip stall, shooting gallery, dart throwing, boxing machine, snack stand, Steckerlfisch, and sweets. There's something for the whole family. The market town of Lehrberg is located in the Ansbach district and belongs to the Romantic Franconia tourism region – an ideal starting point to explore the Franconian region after the festival weekend.
From September 12 to 13, 2026, the market town of Lehrberg in the Ansbach district will once again transform into a large festival ground. The traditional Kerwa, with roots dating back to 1059, invites you to celebrate for several days in the inns and at the festival grounds on Rezatstraße. Bayern Tourism and the Franconia Tourism Association have officially confirmed the date.
