Franconian Kärwa Tradition

The Kirchweih, known as 'Kärwa' in Franconia, is one of the region's oldest Volksfeste. What once began as a festival to consecrate the local church is today a convivial district festival. Nuremberg, an independent city in Middle Franconia in the state of Bavaria, celebrates numerous district Kirchweihen throughout the year – the Gartenstadt-Kärwa is one of them.

Volksfest at Heckenweg

Gartenstadt is a district in southern Nuremberg, known for its garden-themed residential buildings. The Kirchweih takes place on the festival grounds at Heckenweg, a municipal area, and is co-organized by SSV Nürnberg. It offers fairground attractions with beer service, carousels and rides, snack stands with Franconian specialties, as well as live music and entertainment for young and old.

Like all Nuremberg district Kirchweihen, the Gartenstadt-Kärwa thrives on the commitment of local clubs and its neighborly character. It is a meeting point for residents and guests from all over the city and represents the lived Franconian festival culture.
