Franconian Kirchweih Tradition

The Kirchweih Burgoberbach is the annual Kerwa (church consecration festival) of the municipality of Burgoberbach in the Ansbach district (Bavaria, Middle Franconia). As everywhere in Franconia, the Kirchweih marks the annual highlight of the village festival calendar – an occasion for the whole village to come together. It is traditionally celebrated around the fourth Sunday in October.

Marquee Fair and Amusement Park

The core of the event is the Zeltkirchweih (marquee fair) with festivities lasting several days, complemented by an amusement park with rides and a varied supporting program. The Kerwa attracts visitors from the entire surrounding area and is a true traditional event in the Franconian customs calendar.

Creative Market and Kirchweih Café

On Kirchweih Sunday, the Forum Familie Burgoberbach e.V. organizes a creative market at the Burgoberbach primary school (starting in the afternoon). Local hobby artists offer handmade items – including socks, pictures, bags, jam, cushions, herbal sachets, decorative items, and jewelry. The Kirchweih café in the assembly hall serves homemade cakes, savory snacks, and hot and cold drinks.
