The Kirchenburgmarkt Hüttenheim is one of the most beautiful arts and crafts markets in the Franconian wine region. The venue is the historic church fortress complex of the wine village Hüttenheim, a district of the market town Willanzheim in the Kitzingen district (Lower Franconia, Bavaria). In 2026, the 28th edition of the market will take place – a Franconian tradition that combines arts and crafts, wine enjoyment, and village atmosphere.

Artisans from All Over Franconia

The focus is on arts and crafts. At the stalls around the church fortress, artisans and artists present their unique pieces and direct productions made from metal, wood, textiles, clay, willow, leather, paper, glass, and natural materials. Traditional techniques are demonstrated on-site: rope makers at work, basket weavers with their willow, spinners at the spinning wheel – a lively picture of traditional craftsmanship that shows visitors from all over the Steigerwald the diversity of Franconian handicraft.

Wines from Hüttenheim Vintners

Hüttenheim is an important wine village on the Franconian Wine Route. At the Kirchenburgmarkt, local vintners – Weingut Falk, Ebracher Hof, Gümpelein, and Lang – serve their dry Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, and Bocksbeutel wines. If you want to take a few bottles home, you can buy them directly at the stand. In addition, there are Franconian specialties at the snack stands, coffee, waffles, and cakes from the Naturling-Café Müller.

The Church Fortress as a Backdrop

The church fortress of Hüttenheim is one of the best-preserved church fortress complexes in Franconia. The medieval defensive structure around the parish church forms the backdrop for the market and is a reminder that Franconian wine villages were once fortified settlements. Today, it serves as an exhibition space and event venue – at the Kirchenburgmarkt, it comes alive with arts and crafts for a weekend.

Organizers and Tradition

The organizer is the market town of Willanzheim with the Hüttenheim associations. The aim of the market is to provide a platform for direct marketers, artisans, and artists, and to foster contact with guests from the Franconian wine region and the Steigerwald. Admission is free. The market is embedded in a rich calendar of events in the Franconian wine region with wine festivals, wine hikes, and the parallel series of "Hoffeste" (courtyard festivals) by the Hüttenheim vintners.
