What is Kinofest?

Kinofest is a nationwide industry event that, since 2024, reduces admission to participating cinemas to 5 Euros for a weekend every autumn – regardless of the auditorium, time of day, or film length. The goal: to bring people back to the cinemas who may have lost touch with the experience in recent years. The result: one of the busiest days of the German cinema year.

The Berlin Edition 2026

Date: Saturday, September 12th, and Sunday, September 13th, 2026. Participating cinemas in Berlin: practically the entire art-house cinema spectrum, from the Yorck-Verbund (with venues like Yorck, International, Babylon Kreuzberg, Passage, Filmkunst 66) to the multiplex Cinestar chain (Cubix at Alexanderplatz, Tegel, Treptower Park) to premium venues like the Zoo Palast and art-house cinemas like Hackesche Höfe, FSK am Oranienplatz, and Filmtheater am Friedrichshain. A complete list with the program and seating plan will be published on daskinofest.de in the week before the event.

Which Films?

The program includes current cinema blockbusters (provided distributors participate), as well as classics and revivals. Some cinemas focus on special themes – such as curated art-house days with film discussions or preview screenings of festival entries from Locarno, Venice, or San Sebastián.

District and Location

The participating venues are spread across almost all districts – Mitte, Charlottenburg, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Prenzlauer Berg, Neukölln, Steglitz, Spandau, Reinickendorf. Berlin, State of Berlin.
