About Long Night of Families
Long Night of Families — edition 2026
On Saturday, October 10, 2026, the Long Night of Families transforms all of Berlin into a decentralised hands-on night for families with children. In all 12 districts, family centres, theatres, libraries, museums and neighbourhood offices open with special programmes. Unlike the evening-focused Long Night of Museums for adults, the Family Night starts earlier and usually ends around 10 PM — adapted to family routines. Hands-on stations, family concerts, reading hours, craft studios, movement programmes and meeting spaces form the core. Admission is mostly free, with individual workshops having a symbolic entrance fee.

The child-friendly sister of the Museum Night
While the Long Night of Museums is aimed at adult culture enthusiasts (attendance 6 PM–2 AM, often wine, often adult concerts), the Long Night of Families explicitly targets families with children. Programme items start earlier (often in the afternoon), end earlier (usually by 10 PM) and are consistently child-friendly — hands-on stations, family concerts, reading corners, craft studios, movement programmes.
City-wide networking
The event is coordinated by the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family. Participating are family centres, kindergartens with special programmes, theatres (Grips Theater, Astrid Lindgren Bühne, FEZ Wuhlheide), neighbourhood libraries, family gardens, museums with children's programmes, schools and sports clubs. Each district contributes its own programme items — the night is decentralised, with no single main location.

Why it's needed
Berlin is considered family-friendly, but the cultural visibility for families beyond the standard museums is limited. The Long Night of Families makes visible for one evening what happens in the neighbourhoods throughout the year — family centres, parent initiatives, children's theatres, neighbourhood libraries. It is both a promotional format for these structures and an experiential format for the families themselves.
