Kerwe Weilerbach

The Kerwe Weilerbach is the annual Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the Palatinate municipality of Weilerbach in the Kaiserslautern district. On September 22, 2026, the Kerwe will be celebrated; the festival weekend extends from Friday to Sunday in the classic Palatinate style.

Weilerbach and its Festival Culture

Weilerbach is known in the Kaiserslautern district for its vibrant festival culture. The large Farmers' Market in May – in its 20th edition in 2026 – attracts thousands of visitors annually. The Kerwe in September complements this festival tradition with the original, religiously rooted church consecration festival of the community.

Palatinate Kerwe Rhythm

The Weilerbach Kerwe follows the classic Palatinate Kerwe rhythm: Opening on Friday evening with barrel tapping, dance evening on Saturday with live music or DJ, Frühschoppen on Sunday morning with brass music, Kerwe parade on Sunday afternoon, and festival conclusion in the evening.

Kerweborsch and Traditions

As in every Palatinate village, Kerweborsch (Kerwe lads), Kerweparrer (Kerwe priest), and Kerwestrauß (Kerwe bouquet) characterize the festival events. The humorous and satirical Kerwerede (Kerwe speech) on Sunday afternoon addresses village events, local anecdotes, and political happenings of the year.

Festival Grounds and Club Life

The local clubs – sports club, fire department, music club, and others – provide the festival tent, bar, and catering. The menu features Palatinate classics: Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Schwenkbraten (pan-fried pork steak), and fries. Draft beer and Palatinate wine accompany the festival weekend. On Sunday afternoon, the women of the parish serve coffee and cake.

Community Identity

For Weilerbach, the Kerwe is an important date in the annual calendar. It preserves the religious roots of the Kirchweih and complements the community's festival profile, which consists of the May farmers' market, the Bergfest (mountain festival) at the Eulenkopfturm in Eulenbis, and the Kerwe in September.
