About Schopper Kerwe

The Kerwe Schopp is the annual Kirchweih (church fair) of the Palatinate municipality of Schopp in the Kaiserslautern district, located in the heart of the Pfälzerwald. From July 25th to 28th, 2026, the four-day Kerwe will be celebrated – a central social event in the annual cycle of this small forest community. The festival grounds in the village host a classic Palatinate Kerwe program with a keg tapping ceremony, dance evenings, Frühschoppen (morning pint), a Kerwe parade on Sunday, and a family Monday. Local clubs organize the festival together, offering Palatinate specialties, draft beer, wine, and living traditions. A typical West Palatinate forest Kerwe with a family atmosphere and hiking connections.

The Kerwe Schopp is the annual Kirchweih (church fair) of the municipality of Schopp in the Kaiserslautern district. From July 25th to 28th, 2026, the four-day festival will be celebrated on the village green in the town center – Palatinate Kerwe tradition in the heart of the Pfälzerwald.

Schopp in the Pfälzerwald

Schopp is located in the middle of the Pfälzerwald Nature Park, south of Kaiserslautern. The municipality is a starting point for hikes, has small guesthouses and restaurants, and has preserved its identity as a Pfälzerwald village. The annual Kerwe is both a club festival and a meeting point for hiking groups and summer guests.

Four-Day Palatinate Kerwe

The Schopper Kerwe is celebrated over four days, from Saturday to Tuesday. The extended format is typical for the West Palatinate village Kerwe tradition and allows for dance evenings, Frühschoppen (morning pint), lunch, family programs, and the Kerwe parade. Opening on Saturday afternoon with a keg tapping ceremony, the main Kerwe day on Sunday with a parade, family program on Monday, and winding down on Tuesday with the Kerwe burial.

Kerweborsch and Traditions

As everywhere in the Palatinate, the Kerweborsch – unmarried young men of the village – and the Kerweparrer (Kerwe pastor) with his humorous Kerwerede (Kerwe speech) shape the festival events. The Kerwestrauß (Kerwe bouquet), artfully decorated, is the symbol of the Kerwe and is carried in the parade on Sunday.

Festival Grounds and Club Life

The local clubs – sports club, fire department, music club – provide the festival tent, bar, and catering. Palatinate classics like Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), and fries are on the menu. Draft beer and Palatinate wine accompany the festival weekend.

Meeting Point in the Forest

The Schopper Kerwe combines Palatinate traditions with the special atmosphere of the Pfälzerwald. For the residents, it is the social highlight of the year; for guests, it is an opportunity to experience the Palatinate way of life in the forest.
