Traditional Kirchweih in Münster-Sarmsheim at the transition from the Rheingau to the Middle Rhine Valley
The Kerb in Münster-Sarmsheim is one of the most important village festivals in the municipality's calendar. The tradition dates back to the consecration of the local parish church, but over generations, it has evolved into a secular Volksfest deeply rooted in the community, attracting former residents from all over Germany back to the Nahe.
The festival begins on Friday with the Kerb Opening. The local mayor taps the first keg, the marching band plays, and the festival grounds in the village center are officially opened. Over the following days, local associations – the fire department, sports club, carnival club, church communities – treat visitors to Rhenish Palatinate specialties, bratwurst, fries, steaks, and a wide selection of drinks.
The Münster-Sarmsheim vintners are an integral part of the Kerb. At the wine stands, regional wines are served: dry Rieslings from the slate slopes of the Middle Rhine Valley, fresh Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau, and full-bodied Spätburgunder. The combination of Volksfest and wine culture is typical for the region between the Nahe, Rheingau, and Middle Rhine.
Stages provide musical entertainment at several locations. During the day, acoustic musicians and the local marching band dominate, while in the evening, cover bands take over with rock, pop, and Schlager repertoires. Classic amusement rides like children's carousels, candy stalls, and small game booths complement the festival offerings, making the Kerb attractive for families as well.
The Kerb in Münster-Sarmsheim has a distinct village character. Unlike the large city festivals in Mainz, Bingen, or Bad Kreuznach, everything here remains manageable, the participants and visitors know each other, and the spirit of the Kerb is the shared enjoyment of a summer weekend in their home community.
The 2026 edition follows the proven structure of the Münster-Sarmsheim Kerb: opening on Friday, main stage on Saturday, festival Sunday, and a relaxed Monday conclusion.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the municipality of Münster-Sarmsheim in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points from previous years.
