Traditional Kirchweih in the Jakobsthal district of Heigenbrücken
The Kerb in Jakobsthal (in dialect 'Knöpphüttener Kerb') is the annual Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the Heigenbrücken district of Jakobsthal in the Aschaffenburg district. The patron saint is the parish church of St. Jakobus. As everywhere in Lower Franconia and Hesse, 'Kerb' (Kerwe, Kirchweih, Kirmes) denotes the annual festival on the church's consecration day – traditionally one of the most important social events of the village.
The organizer is the Jakobsthal Club Community, an association of local clubs: the football club FC 1951 Eichenberg, the Jakobsthal Volunteer Fire Brigade, the music club, the parish community, and others. This constellation is typical for Spessart villages: the Kerb is not the work of a single club, but a collective effort.
As is customary for Kerwen in the Aschaffenburg Spessart and the Hessian Vorderspessart, the Kerb in Jakobsthal follows a fixed pattern: Opening evening on Friday or Saturday with catering and music, festive church service on Sunday in the St. Jakobus parish church, joint Frühschoppen (morning pint), lunch, and festival activities in the afternoon, sometimes a Kerbborsch (festival youth representative) appearance, live music in the evening. The exact content (bands, special events) is communicated by the Club Community shortly before the date on the municipal website and club channels.
Heigenbrücken is a municipality in the Aschaffenburg district with the two districts of Heigenbrücken and Jakobsthal. It is located in the middle of the Hochspessart on the Aschaffenburg–Würzburg railway line and serves as both a starting point for hikes and a residential area for commuters. The Kerb in Jakobsthal is – alongside the 'Knöpphütten' fire brigade anniversary in 2024 – one of the traditional program points in the municipality's annual calendar.
The weekend of July 25th to 26th, 2026, in Jakobsthal will be entirely dedicated to the Kerb. The Jakobsthal Club Community is organizing the festival in its usual format: festival activities over two days around the St. Jakobus parish church, a joint festive church service on Sunday, catering, and music afterwards.
The final daily program for the 2026 Kerb will be communicated by the participating clubs shortly before the date on the municipal website and club channels. Compared to previous years, a mix of Frühschoppen (morning pint), lunch, coffee and cake on Sunday afternoon, and live music in the evening is expected.
The complete program will be published by the Jakobsthal Club Community shortly before the date. The following program elements are reliably expected based on annual tradition:
Exact performing bands, potential Kerbborsch (festival youth representative) appearances, and special events will be communicated on heigenbruecken.de.
Admission to the Kerb is free. Food and drinks are paid for on site; prices are based on local festival catering standards.
