Winzerkeller Open for the Start of Autumn
The Kellerkirmes Mesenich is an event with character. While most Mosel wine festivals focus on large marquees, stages, and central festival grounds, Mesenich consciously chooses the opposite path: the vintners open their own courtyards and cellars, presenting their wines in a familiar environment and enabling direct conversation about vineyard sites, vintages, and styles.
The concept originates from the tradition of Southern German courtyard festivals, but in Mesenich, it has acquired its own Mosel character. The courtyards are within walking distance in the village center, making a tour on foot easily accessible. With a festival glass and an overview map in hand, visitors wander from station to station, have the current wines served at each courtyard, and enjoy the late-summer atmosphere in the Mosel village.
The wines come exclusively from Mesenich's winegrowing estates and range from light summer wines and fresh Rieslings from the current harvest to mature Pinot Noirs and Auslesen. Each courtyard is free to design its own program—from classic tasting glasses to small vertical tastings and guided vineyard site presentations.
Culinary offerings at the courtyards include vintner's snacks, Flammkuchen, Eifel cheese, and autumnal specialties. Acoustic music groups at several stations provide a atmospheric accompaniment without disrupting the intimate character of the event. The Kellerkirmes is an insider tip for anyone who wants to experience authentic Mosel life beyond the large festival tents.
