Festival mile, stage, arts and crafts, and Sunday shopping in the Taunus
The Kelkheim City Festival is the major spring festival of the Taunus community of Kelkheim, located halfway between Frankfurt and the Großer Feldberg. The organizer is the City of Kelkheim itself, which has designed the event as an open city marketing initiative: associations, shops, gastronomy, arts and crafts, and showmen set up their stalls along the central festival mile between Frankfurter Straße, Bahnstraße, and the Großer Haingraben.
In 2026, the City Festival will again run under the subtitle "Street of Diversity" – a concept that provides the thematic framework for the individual zones. The festival is divided into six clearly distinguishable areas: a central festival tent with a stage and morning pint, a flea market on Sunday morning, an arts and crafts area, a "Mixed Zone" with car dealers, association stands, and food trucks, a small funfair for families, and – as a practical addition – an accessible underground car park.
On the stage in the festival tent, Let the Butterfly will perform on Saturday evening, and the L.A. Band on Sunday – both established acts from the Rhine-Main region, providing the audience with cover versions and their own material from pop, rock, and soul. The booking reflects the program's line: no supra-regional headliners, but bands that the audience knows and that cater to the stage format of a city festival.
A special feature of the Kelkheim City Festival is the Warm-Up on Saturday evening starting at 6 pm. While many city festivals start from scratch on Sunday, Kelkheim builds the mood over two days. Those who are already in town on Saturday evening will find the festival mile already in operation – with live music in the festival tent, food trucks, and the atmosphere of an upcoming Volksfest (popular festival).
On Sunday, May 17, the full program runs: festival tent with morning pint from 11 am, children's program, live music. The flea market is open from 10 am to 4 pm, the arts and crafts market from 11 am to 6 pm. The shops on Frankfurter Straße and Bahnstraße are open from 12 pm to 6 pm as part of the Sunday shopping – an economic anchor that supports the city festival from the retail perspective.
Kelkheim, with its approximately 30,000 inhabitants, is located in the Main-Taunus district and is one of the more desirable residential areas in Frankfurt's surroundings. The town center between the train station and the town hall has been carefully renovated in recent years, so the festival mile now runs along an attractive, easily walkable route. The city festival is one of the formats with which Kelkheim marks its independent identity beyond Frankfurt's commuter belt.
The 2026 edition sticks to the established format. The festival grounds extend along the Frankfurter Straße–Bahnstraße–Großer Haingraben festival mile with six clearly defined zones. Registration for Kelkheim associations is via the City Marketing department, for external exhibitors via the Weiss event agency.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and rides at individual prices.
