Carnival parade on Carnival Saturday in Weidenhahn in the Westerwaldkreis with a jester's start time of 2:33 PM
The Weidenhahn carnival parade is a popular date in the carnival calendar of the western Westerwaldkreis. On Carnival Saturday, the small Westerwald community transforms into a colorful, laughing jester's town. Floats, walking groups, music bands, and guards march through the village center.
In 2026, the parade starts on Saturday, February 14th, at the jester's time of 2:33 PM. The unusual start time is a loving nod to the tradition of jester's numbers – Carnival thrives on such small peculiarities that each club makes its own signature.
The municipality of Weidenhahn in the Westerburg collective municipality is a typical Westerwald community with a village character and lively club life. The carnival club brings an astonishing amount of volunteer commitment to the street year after year. For weeks before the event, floats are built, costumes are sewn, dance groups train, and catering is organized.
While the major carnival strongholds claim the spotlight on Rose Monday, many Westerwald communities organize their parades on Carnival Saturday or Sunday. This way, they avoid media competition, and the carnival-goers can travel to other parades after their own or receive friends from neighboring communities.
The parade proceeds along the main street through the village center. Floats with thematic mottos, often satirically focused on local events and the zeitgeist, alternate with walking groups. Fife and drum corps, Guggemusik bands, and carnival bands set the pace. Thrown items like Kamelle (sweets) and promotional items are generously tossed into the cheering crowd.
After the parade, participants and spectators move to the club house, inn, or under a pavilion. The jester's activities continue in a convivial atmosphere with music, Helau calls, and refreshments. The family-friendly atmosphere and short distances are the charm of this Westerwald event.
