Carnival in Wegberg
Wegberg is a medium-sized town in the southern Heinsberg district (Cologne administrative region) between Mönchengladbach and the Dutch border. Like everywhere in western Rhineland, Carnival shapes social life — besides the big cities like Cologne, Aachen, or Düsseldorf, Wegberg has its own, very vibrant carnival scene with several active carnival societies: KG Flock Op, Dorfgemeinschaft Hei on Klei, and KG Sonn Männ 1951 e.V., which is the focus here.
KG Sonn Männ 1951 — Over 70 Years of Tradition
The Carnival Society Sonn Männ 1951 e.V. is one of Wegberg's oldest and most well-attended carnival associations. With its own Prince and Princess, Prince's Guard, Junior Guard, and Grand Guard, as well as the professional dance group XXL — The Dancecompany, the club is among the organizing committees that make Wegberg visible in the 'Bütt' (parody speech) carnival. The highlight of the session year is the grand 1st Carnival Session in February.
1st Carnival Session 2026 — The Program
The 1st Carnival Session of the 2025/2026 season takes place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Grand Sato Hall in Wegberg-Klinkum — a traditional event hall located at Alte Landstraße 130. Admission from 6 PM, program starts at 7:11 PM (the famous carnival time). The stage will feature a mix of comedy, acrobatics, and dance: Till the Scot presents a number with figure skating elements, ventriloquist Gérard performs with his puppets, the Prince's Guard, the Junior Guard, the Grand Guard, and XXL — The Dancecompany showcase their choreography. The Rhenish carnival bands De Kloetschköpp and So!lala provide the musical entertainment.
Rhenish Session Carnival
A classic Rhenish carnival session follows a set structure: after the entry of the Prince's Guard with fanfare, the session president welcomes the audience. Between the performances of dance groups and soloists, there are 'Büttenreden' (parody speeches), pun-filled mood songs, and communal swaying. The Grand Sato Hall offers around 400 seats at long tables — costumes are encouraged, three 'Alaaf' cheers instead of 'Helau' (in the Wegberg area, both cheers are used).
Tickets and Travel
Tickets cost 27.50 Euros per person and are available in advance from KG Sonn Männ (Email: [email protected]). Travel to Wegberg-Klinkum by car via the L 19 (B 57); parking available at the hall. Public transport: Wegberg train station on the Mönchengladbach-Dalheim line, from there bus or taxi to Klinkum (approx. 4 kilometers). About 20 minutes by car from Mönchengladbach, about 25 minutes from Heinsberg.
Note: No Rose Monday Parade 2026
The Wegberg Rose Monday parade takes place biennially — 2026 is a break year, the next big parade is planned for 2027. This makes the indoor sessions, like the one by KG Sonn Männ, even more important for Wegberg carnival-goers who don't want to wait until 2027.
