Rhineland-Moselle carnival culture has two main branches: public street carnival with town hall storming and Rose Monday parades, and indoor session culture, which takes place in closed rooms with a stage, dance floor, and long tables with carnival refreshments. In Trier, both branches are equally prominent. The carnival sessions are organized by individual clubs and all follow a classic session format: Welcome by the session president, stage program with Büttenreden (humorous rhyming speeches), performances by dance troupes, carnival music (live or by DJs), show acts, and short sketches.

The venues are carefully selected: The Orangerie of Nells Park Hotel offers historic hall charm; the City Hall in FourSide Plaza is the more modern option with a large stage; the Europahalle Trier offers the largest capacity and is used for the most popular sessions.
