Fat Thursday and Rose Monday Parade in the historic castle town on the Enz
The Karneval Neuerburg will focus on two important events in 2026: On Fat Thursday, February 12th, the traditional carnival celebration will kick off the hot phase of the season starting at 4:11 PM. On Rose Monday, February 16th, the grand parade through the town streets with floats, walking groups, and music bands from all over the Südeifel region will follow. Neuerburg, the historic castle town on the Enz in the Südeifel collective municipality, will transform into a carnival stronghold during these days.
The town with its distinctive castle and well-maintained old town offers an impressive backdrop for the Eifel's Fastnacht tradition.
Neuerburg on the Enz, located in the western Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm, is one of the most charming Eifel towns with its medieval city walls, castle, and historic old town. Carnival is traditionally celebrated here — with all the elements of Eifel Fastnacht, from dialect-spoken comedy sketches (Bütt) to self-built carnival floats.
Fat Thursday — also known as Weiberfastnacht — marks the official start of the hot carnival phase in many Rhenish strongholds. In Neuerburg, the season begins on February 12th, 2026, starting at 4:11 PM with the carnival celebration in the market square or a hall. This opening festival has an open, convivial character — all generations come together, and costumed guests shape the scene.
The actual highlight is the Rose Monday parade on February 16th, 2026. Carnival floats with satirical, local, and current political themes, dance troupes with elaborate costumes, walking groups, and music bands from the Südeifel will march through the main street. The parade entries come from Neuerburg itself and from friendly carnival clubs in the Südeifel collective municipality.
After the parade, the carnival community moves to the local pubs and the festival hall of the castle town. The celebration continues late into the night — live music, DJ sets, catering with Eifel specialties, and dancing characterize the carnival wind-down.
The historic setting of Neuerburg lends a special charm to the carnival. The interplay between the medieval city walls, old houses, and festive activities makes the event a visual experience that goes far beyond the standard carnival format.
Karneval Neuerburg 2026 kicks off on Fat Thursday, February 12th at 4:11 PM with the traditional carnival celebration in the market square, ushering in the peak carnival season. On Rose Monday, February 16th, the grand parade through the town streets will follow, featuring floats, dance troupes, walking groups, and music bands from the Südeifel collective municipality. The historic castle town setting of Neuerburg provides a unique atmosphere for the events.
In 2026, the Neuerburg Carnival Association is bringing the two key events, Fat Thursday and the Rose Monday Parade, to the historic town. Tradition is upheld with the usual dedication — floats are built, dance troupes are trained, and comedy sketches (Bütt) are rehearsed.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in January. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
