Tradition on the Church Square

The Kappelner Kirmes is the traditional fair of the municipality of Westerkappeln and takes place annually in the central Kirchplatz (church square) — right in front of the historic church in the town center. The location gives the festival its special character: showman's hustle and bustle in close proximity to the sacred center of the community.

Three Days in Mid-September

The 2026 edition runs from Saturday, September 12, to Monday, September 14. The opening hours are clearly structured: Saturday and Sunday 3 PM–10 PM, Monday 10 AM–10 PM. So, a full day on Monday — fitting for the highlight of the school flea market.

Classic Showman's Offerings

The attractions include carousels for children, bumper cars, break dancers, and a music express — a classic mix of rides for children and adults. In addition, there are stalls with sweets, roasted almonds, crêpes, cotton candy, bratwurst, and fries, as well as shooting galleries and skill games.

School Flea Market on Monday

A special feature is the children's and school flea market on Monday — a traditional highlight that is particularly popular with children and teenagers. Here, the young residents of Westerkappeln sell their no longer needed toys, books, and collectibles. An important learning experience in the social life of the community.

Westerkappeln is located in the northern Tecklenburger Land, on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia.
