Patron Saint's Festival of the Hattenhofen Volunteer Fire Brigade in Honour of St. Florian
The Floriansfest is one of the oldest and most important patron saint's festivals in the Catholic fire brigade tradition in Bavaria. Saint Florian of Lorch, who worked as an officer in the Roman administration in Noricum in the 3rd century and legend says died by drowning, is the patron saint of firefighters. His liturgical feast day is May 4th – most Bavarian volunteer fire brigades celebrate their Floriansfest around this date.
The Hattenhofen Volunteer Fire Brigade, based in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Hattenhofen in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck, invites you annually to the Floriansfest on a Sunday in May. The venue is the fire station at Benno-Heinrich-Straße 7. The festival begins with a solemn church service at the fire station, asking for God's blessing for an accident-free year of service. Afterwards, active and passive members celebrate with the community until the afternoon.
The Floriansfest is more than just an internal club festival: it is the most important opportunity of the year for the people of Hattenhofen to learn about the work of their volunteer fire brigade and to appreciate the commitment of the voluntary helpers. Catering, socialising, and mutual trust characterise the festival day.
Hattenhofen is a municipality with around 1,700 inhabitants in the western district of Fürstenfeldbruck in the state of Bavaria, southwest of the state capital Munich. The Floriansfest is one of the annual highlights of club life and exemplifies the close bond between volunteer fire brigades and their village communities in the Upper Bavarian region.
