Four days of Kirmes in the anniversary year for the 750th celebration of the Westerwald market town
In 2026, the municipality of Wallmerod celebrates the 750th anniversary of its market town. The first documented mention of Wallmerod dates back to February 4, 1276, making the town one of the historically well-documented settlements in the Westerwald district. For this occasion, the municipality, clubs, and the business association have put together a comprehensive anniversary calendar that accompanies the entire year 2026 with numerous events – from the Spring Festival, the Open Air, and the Molsberger Market to the Westerwald Oktoberfest and the Christmas Market. The anniversary Kirmes at the end of May marks the traditional summer highlight of this festival calendar.
From Friday to Monday, the town center becomes the stage for a classic Westerwald Volksfest. Rides and carousels, food stalls and sweet shops, a large festival tent with live music and disco nights, plus club stands, cake buffets, and the typical Kirmes hustle and bustle characterize the weekend. The anniversary edition adds special touches with unique program points that reflect the festival year.
Wallmerod clubs – from the fire department and marksmen to music clubs and carnival associations – participate with their own contributions to the program. This makes the Kirmes more than just an amusement park: it is an expression of the village community and traditions passed down through generations. In the anniversary year, this community engagement receives special visibility.
Wallmerod is the administrative seat of the Verbandsgemeinde (administrative district) of Wallmerod in the northern Westerwald district and is conveniently located on the B 8 federal road between Limburg and Hachenburg. The market town, with its approximately 2,100 inhabitants, forms the center of a vibrant club life, which culminates in a joint festival program in the anniversary year 2026.
The 2026 edition is being prepared with special effort as part of the 750th-anniversary celebration. Clubs, businesses, and the municipality are jointly contributing to the program.
From Friday evening to Monday evening, the town center is the scene of a classic Westerwald Volksfest with a festival tent, live music, disco, food offerings, and rides.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the municipality of Wallmerod in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years, supplemented by anniversary highlights:
