A week of jazz by the Outer Alster — open air and in the concert hall
The JazzHall at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre is located at Harvestehuder Weg 12 — right on the Outer Alster, one of the city's most beautiful spots. This is where the JazzHall SummerFestival takes place at the end of June / beginning of July: a festival week that connects Hamburg's jazz scene with young talents from the university and international guests.
What makes the festival special is its two-part format: afternoon open-air concerts in front of the JazzHall right by the Outer Alster — free of charge, with a picnic atmosphere. Evening concerts in the concert hall with tickets — more established acts and the main program. Those who want a full day of jazz can come to the open-air stage in the afternoon and move to the hall in the evening.
Young talents from the HfMT jazz program perform on stage alongside established acts: Vimbs Mavimbs (South African bassist), DIALECT (Hamburg project), the Birdland Brothers Jam Session, the Jeremy Pelt Quartet, plus Focus Artists like Laila Nysten and Lucas Brum. The supporting program includes culinary delights by Cornelia Poletto, live music, face painting, and upcycling workshops.
The organizer is the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre (HfMT), one of Germany's most important music universities. The patron for 2026 is Senator Maryam Blumenthal, Hamburg's Senator for Science, Research, and Equality. District: Rotherbaum, Eimsbüttel borough.
