ATP 500 clay court tournament at Rothenbaum
When the excavators and rollers prepare the red clay courts at Rothenbaum to perfection in May, the exciting phase begins for tennis fans across Germany: The Bitpanda Hamburg Open is the only ATP 500 tournament in Germany and brings the world's best tennis players to the Rothenbaum district, Hamburg-Eimsbüttel, for a week.
In 2026, the tournament celebrates its 120th edition. The list of winners reads like a who's who of world tennis: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Björn Borg, Ivan Lendl, Carlos Alcaraz — they have all played at Rothenbaum. In 2025, the 23-year-old Italian Flavio Cobolli won the final against Andrey Rublev and returns in 2026 as the defending champion.
The total prize money is €2,219,670. The champion receives €415,140, the finalist €223,350. The 2026 field includes, among others, world number five Felix Auger-Aliassime, Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, Alex de Minaur, Jakub Mensik, Jiří Lehečka, Karen Khachanov, and Tommy Paul. Representing Germany are Jan-Lennard Struff, Yannick Hanfmann, Daniel Altmaier, and the 18-year-old talent Justin Engel.
The Rothenbaum Stadium, with around 13,200 seats, is one of Europe's most traditional tennis stadiums. Sponsors such as Bitpanda (title sponsor), Yokohama, Lexus, and Emirates support a tournament that is a firm fixture on the Hamburg sports calendar. Broadcasts in Germany are on Sky and Eurosport/Discovery+, worldwide on TennisTV.
In 2026, the ATP 500 tournament will be held for the 120th time. It is the only tournament of this category on clay in Germany and thus an annual must-see for the world's elite on red clay.
Alexander Zverev has withdrawn due to injury for 2026.
