Three days of Italian lifestyle on Kiliansplatz Heilbronn — the square becomes "Piazza Kilian" with cheese, wine, antipasti, and live music
From May 21st to 23rd, 2026, Kiliansplatz in Heilbronn's city center will transform into an Italian market square for three days. Kiliansplatz becomes "Piazza Kilian" — market stalls from Italian vendors will line the square, pasta stands and pizza ovens will spread their aromas, and Italian flavors will cool you down at the ice cream stations. The organizer is Heilbronn Marketing GmbH, which has established the event as a regular fixture in May for years.
Italian vendors will bring the classic assortment of Italian market tradition:
For those who want to not only shop but also dine, the market offers classic Italian lunch and dinner dishes: freshly prepared pasta (often Spaghetti Carbonara, Penne all'Arrabbiata, Tortellini in Brodo), wood-fired pizza, bruschetta with various toppings, arancini (Sicilian rice balls), tramezzini. At the espresso stand: a quick Italian shot, sometimes brewed by baristas from Italy themselves.
The 2026 program includes two evenings of Italian music:
With almost 130,000 inhabitants, Heilbronn is the central city of northern Württemberg and a university town. Kiliansplatz, with the magnificent St. Kilian's Church (one of the most important late Gothic churches in Southern Germany) and the town hall, is the historical center of the city. During the Italian Market, the square becomes a Southern European stage for three days — a deliberate atmospheric shift that brings a piece of Italian lifestyle to Heilbronn in May.
The 2026 market concept adheres to the proven structure: Thursday opening in the afternoon, Friday and Saturday full market days with Italian vendors along the entire Kiliansplatz. Pasta, pizza, bruschetta, arancini, and tramezzini are freshly prepared at several stands, and the espresso stand operates all day.
The highlight of the evenings are the two live music performances on Friday and Saturday, both featuring Italian repertoire — a deliberate atmospheric enhancement of the Italian theme.
Free admission. Pasta and pizza dishes €8–€14, bruschetta €5–€7, espresso €2, wine by the glass €4–€6, Aperol Spritz €6–€7. Take-away cheese and ham prices vary by product.
By train: Heilbronn main station, then a 10-minute walk to the city center or take the S4 light rail. By car: A6 exit Heilbronn, parking garages Käthchenhof or Sülmer City directly in the center.
Free admission. Purchases at the market at usual market prices — Italian lunch/dinner dishes €8–€18, espresso €2, wine by the glass €4–€6.
Come on Saturday in the late afternoon — before the live music starts, the stalls are still well-stocked and the atmosphere is relaxed. If you want to shop: Cheese and ham often have the full selection on Saturday morning, but are already thinned out by Sunday afternoon.
