Rosenmontagszug in Greimersburg in the Verbandsgemeinde Cochem in the Cochem-Zell district
The Rosenmontagszug in Greimersburg is one of the festive highlights in the Verbandsgemeinde Cochem in the Cochem-Zell district. The Eifel village near Cochem attracts revellers from the region on Rosenmontag, who celebrate the absolute peak of the carnival days together with the villagers.
In the 2026 carnival calendar, the parade takes place on Monday, February 16th. Floats, walking groups, music groups, and jesters characterize the scene in the village centre. Sweets, candies, and small gifts fly into the crowd, and "Helau" cheers echo through the streets.
Greimersburg is located in the Verbandsgemeinde Cochem, in close proximity to the Moselle river. The village is one of the Eifel towns that passionately uphold their Rhenish carnival tradition. The carnival club, fire department, and various associations join forces year after year to put on a Rosenmontagszug that attracts attention far beyond the municipal borders.
Weeks before Rosenmontag, floats are built in garages and barns. Wood, cardboard, wire mesh, paint, and hours of painting transform trailers into colourful, often satirical, carnival vehicles. Local political issues, community anecdotes, or regional peculiarities are humorously satirized.
In addition to the floats, the walking groups are an essential part of the parade. Sports clubs, music associations, young farmers, school and kindergarten groups, as well as neighbours, appear in uniform, often thematic costumes. Guard dance groups and marching bands provide musical and choreographic highlights.
After the parade, the festive procession moves to the community hall, the local inn, or under a festival tent. The celebration continues into the night with live music, a DJ, or carnival hits. Catering with beer, wine, mulled wine, doughnuts, and hearty snacks is guaranteed.
