Hanse Sail Rostock is one of the largest gatherings of historic tall ships and museum vessels in the world. Each year, the city harbour and Warnemünde district turn into a maritime stage with live music, street food and open-ship tours.

The 35th edition of Hanse Sail Rostock takes place from 6 to 9 August 2026. More than 100 traditional sailing ships are expected in Rostock and Warnemünde, complemented by an extensive stage programme.

The 35th edition of Hanse Sail Rostock brings together from 6 to 9 August 2026 more than 100 historic sailing ships and museum vessels from over 20 countries. Four stages with live music, fireworks on Saturday evening and daily sailing trips animate the city harbour and Warnemünde.

Getting there

By train to Rostock Hauptbahnhof, then S-Bahn or tram to the city harbour or onward to Warnemünde. By car via the A19/A20.

Festival entry is free. Sailing trips are paid (advance tickets recommended).

History

Founded in 1991, Hanse Sail Rostock has grown into one of Europe's most prominent maritime festivals. Held every year in early August, it brings together several hundred traditional sailing ships from over 20 countries.

Programme

Highlights include the open-ship days, daily sailing trips, concerts, fireworks and a wide gastronomic offer along the harbour and in Warnemünde.

Local context

Hanse Sail is rooted in the Landkreis Rostock (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) and celebrates the maritime heritage of the former Hanseatic city.
