Sardinia in Berlin
For years, Berlin has been an important stage for Italian diaspora communities — Sicilians, Southern Italians, Sardinians. The Sardinian Cultural Centre Berlin e.V. is one of the most prominent of these communities: an association that runs an artist residency program between Sardinia and Berlin, organizes exhibitions, and has been hosting the "Zwischen Welten — Intra Mundos" festival for years as an annual showcase.
What to Experience
The festival combines three formats over five days:
- Group Exhibition curated by Giusy Sanna — Sardinian and Sardinian-German artists from the residency program and the Berlin diaspora
- Concert Series with three evenings of concerts in April 2026
- Performance and Talk Program surrounding the exhibition
Concert Program 2026
- Friday, April 17, 2026, 8:00 PM — Tristano: Italian pianist with a jazz and crossover repertoire
- Saturday, April 18, 2026, 7:00 PM — Menion (Stefano Ferrari) + Danilo Casti: two Sardinian musicians with a unique mix of electronics, folk, and new music
- Sunday, April 19, 2026, 7:00 PM — Stellan Veloce + Aseret with Isabella Compagnoni and Anita Depaoli: contemporary Sardinian composition with performance elements
Studio 1 at Kunstquartier Bethanien
The Kunstquartier Bethanien on Mariannenplatz in Kreuzberg is one of Berlin's most important exhibition venues for the independent scene — a former 19th-century hospital, now housing artist studios, galleries, and performance spaces. Studio 1 is one of the larger rooms, ideal for group exhibitions, small concerts, and performances. Address: Mariannenplatz 2, 10997 Berlin-Kreuzberg.
Berlin-Kreuzberg and the Italian Diaspora
Kreuzberg is one of Berlin's neighborhoods with the largest Italian community — historically shaped by migration in the 1960s, and today also by a young generation of Italians who have moved to Berlin for study and work. The Sardinian Cultural Centre is one of several regional Italian cultural associations in the city — Sicily, Apulia, and Sardinia each have their own structures, with the Sardinian one being particularly active. Visitors to the festival get to know a very specific aspect of Berlin's diaspora culture.
