Traditional Palatinate Wine Festival in the historic village center by the 1558 Town Hall
Ilbesheim near Landau is part of the Landau-Land administrative district and is located directly at the foot of the Kleine Kalmit, one of the most striking viewpoints on the Southern Wine Route. The village has around 1,300 inhabitants and is characterized by viticulture on the south-facing steep slopes. Its location on the edge of the Palatinate Forest creates a mild climate and the best conditions for Riesling, Burgundy wines, and red wines.
The backdrop for the Weinkerwe is the historic village center around the Ilbesheim Town Hall, built in 1558. The Renaissance building with its distinctive crow-stepped gable is one of the oldest town halls in the Palatinate and one of the most impressive preserved examples of village Renaissance architecture in the region. The atmosphere of the festival benefits greatly from this historic setting: the festival tent and stalls are arranged around the town hall, and the lighting makes the old stones appear particularly striking.
The Ilbesheimer Weinkerwe follows the classic pattern of a Palatinate Kerwe: opening on Friday with the tapping of the first keg and opening speech, festival Saturday with a big evening program, family Sunday with a morning pint (Frühschoppen) and festival Monday with the Kerwekehraus (farewell event). The Kerweborsch (festival lads) organize the Kerwerede (festival speech) and traditional elements. Local clubs are responsible for catering and ensure a diverse culinary offering.
The Ilbesheim vintners serve their current vintages at the Kerwe. Characteristic are the Rieslings from the slopes at the foot of the Kalmit, the Burgundy wines, and the fruity red wines. Several wineries in the village have gained regional and supra-regional recognition in recent years, making the festival increasingly interesting for wine connoisseurs as well.
The event is organized by the municipality of Ilbesheim with the support of local clubs and vintners. The Kerwe is part of the Palatinate festival summer, which creates an extraordinary density of festivals at the same time with numerous wine festivals in neighboring towns – including the Edesheim Jahrmarkt and the Albersweiler Kerwe.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the municipality of Ilbesheim in late summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
