Industry Meeting Instead of Public Fair

Unlike the Intergem in autumn, which also caters to collectors and private visitors, the Idar-Oberstein Buying Days are a purely professional format. They are aimed at goldsmith workshops, jewelers with retail stores, jewelry designers, gallery owners, and gemstone dealers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The format is organized by the Association of Goldsmiths and Gemstone Dealers (GIEDE) together with the participating Idar-Oberstein companies.

Three Days of Concentrated Shopping

The spring edition usually takes place over a long weekend: Friday from 8:00 AM for early arrivals, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. During this time, the participating Idar-Oberstein companies are open – from established gemstone dealers and specialized cutting workshops to jewelry manufacturers and component suppliers. Visitors organize their tours individually and often visit several companies per day.

Trends, Special Stones, and Direct Contact

The added value for trade visitors lies in direct access to inventory and personal conversations with suppliers and workshop managers. Special stones for specific orders can be viewed on-site, new trend colors and styles are discussed in detail, and orders are placed directly. For Idar-Oberstein companies, the Buying Days are one of the most important sales days of the season; for trade visitors, it is the most efficient way to gain a comprehensive overview of the German gemstone market in just a few days.
