25 Years of Commitment

What began as a volunteer initiative in 2001 is now one of the most important fundraising events for Hospiz Friesland. 25 years of Hospizlauf mean 25 years of solidarity and thousands of Varel residents who have run, walked, or cycled for the final phase of life of others during this time.

Meeting Point Schlossplatz

Varel's Schlossplatz is the heart of the run. The event starts here at 11 AM, ends here, and the accompanying program takes place here. The historic square, with a view of the Schlosskirche (Castle Church), offers a beautiful backdrop for an event that brings the city together.

Routes for Everyone

The Hospizlauf is deliberately designed to be inclusive. There are routes for children, for adults, and for cyclists. Those who wish can run one lap, those with more stamina can run several. Every kilometer counts – both symbolically and financially, as donations are partly linked to the number of kilometers covered.

Stage, Raffle, and Café

During the run, a stage program ensures a good atmosphere, a raffle with prizes from local businesses invites participation, and the café offers coffee, cake, and cold drinks. This makes the Hospizlauf a sociable city festival that goes far beyond the sporting aspect.

For the Benefit of Hospiz Friesland

The proceeds go entirely to the work of Hospiz Friesland, which supports terminally ill and dying people and their relatives. The Hospizlauf is one of the hospice's most important annual sources of income.
