Over 100 stalls of agricultural products and bric-a-brac in the historic Water Street
The historic town of Hornburg, now part of the Schladen-Werla municipality, is famous for its exceptionally well-preserved half-timbered core. With over 380 listed half-timbered houses, Hornburg is one of the most beautiful half-timbered towns in Northern Germany. On this special market day, the artfully carved gables and narrow alleys form the perfect backdrop for lively market activity.
The agricultural part of the market offers a broad cross-section of regional producers from the Wolfenbüttel district and its surroundings. At the stalls, visitors will find fresh food, honey directly from the beekeeper, cheese from regional milk processing, homemade sausages, preserved fruits, juices, liqueurs, and traditionally made baked goods. In addition, craftspeople present pottery, woodwork, textiles, and jewelry.
The legendary Old Town Flea Market has achieved cult status over the years. In the narrow streets, on the small squares, and in the inner courtyards, private and professional flea market dealers offer a colorful selection of antiques, vintage furniture, collector's items, porcelain, books, records, and curiosities. Those looking for special finds will get their money's worth here and can combine the day with a leisurely stroll through the old town.
Hornburg is one of the most extraordinary half-timbered towns in the region and offers a unique atmosphere on this market day. Those who spend the day in Hornburg should not only explore the market stalls but also visit the historic St. Mary's Church, the castle ruins, and the numerous magnificent burgher houses.
