Live Music on the Mountain
The Hochfellnfestival is an extraordinary event in the Upper Bavarian festival calendar: an open-air music festival at an alpine altitude. The venue is the middle station of the Hochfelln cable car in Bergen, at the foot of the 1,674 m high Hochfelln – one of the most striking panoramic mountains in the Chiemgau Alps. With views of the Chiemsee lake, the Inntal valley, and the Berchtesgadener Land region, the mountain station offers a unique festival backdrop.
Four Festival Days – Four Genres
The four-day festival in 2026 is divided by genre: Thursday, June 4, will be opened by Die Guten A-Band with rock and pop covers; Friday, June 5, CIAO – the Italo-Pop Band takes over with Italian classics and modern hits; Saturday, June 6, The Hurricanes will provide party and rock music; the finale on Sunday, June 7, will be performed by the Musikkapelle Bergen with traditional Bavarian folk music. This program structure caters to every taste, from rock fans to folk music lovers.
Getting There – Cable Car or Hike
The mountain station is accessible in two ways: conveniently by the Hochfelln cable car from the valley station in Bergen, or on foot via marked mountain paths (approx. 90 minutes ascent). Many guests combine their festival visit with a short mountain hike or an overnight stay in one of the nearby huts. The cable car will operate with extended hours during the festival.
Bergen am Hochfelln
The municipality of Bergen is located in the district of Traunstein in the state of Bavaria, at the northern foot of the Chiemgau Alps. With around 4,500 inhabitants, Bergen is a traditional winter sports and hiking destination with a history dating back to medieval salt production. Today, tourism is the focus, and the Hochfelln cable car is a central attraction. The Hochfellnfestival combines both strengths: mountain tourism and live music.
Atmosphere at 1,064 Meters
The middle station of the cable car is at an altitude of about 1,064 m. In clear weather, the view extends far beyond the Chiemsee lake to the Salzburg Alps. During the concerts, guests sit on wooden benches on an alpine meadow, gaze at the mountain scenery, and enjoy Bavarian delicacies: Brathendl (roast chicken), charcuterie boards, cheese from the Bergen alpine pastures, accompanied by draft beer. The combination of live music, mountain air, and culinary offerings creates the festival's unique character.
