10th Highland Games at Falkensteinsee with 80 teams, Pipeband, Viking village and Medieval market from May 29th to 31st, 2026
The Highland Games Bremen am Falkensteinsee are celebrating their anniversary edition in 2026 — the tenth edition will take place from Friday, May 29th to Sunday, May 31st, 2026 at the Camping & Ferienpark Falkensteinsee in Ganderkesee. For the first time, 80 teams will compete — a record participation.
The program combines the classic Highland disciplines (caber toss, hammer throw, tug of war) with pipe band performances, a Viking village, and a medieval market on Sunday. Admission: €5 adults, €3 children. Power sponsor 2026: Haferkamp Gerüstbau.
The Highland Games are a sport from the Scottish Highlands, the modern form of which dates back to the collection of traditional strength and skill disciplines in the 19th century. Caber Toss, Hammer Throw, Stone Put, and Tug of War form the core. In Ganderkesee at Falkensteinsee, the competitions have been held annually since 2016 — in 2026 for the tenth edition with 80 teams for the first time.
The weekend is musically shaped by pipe bands. The Hamburg Caledonian Pipes & Drums are among the best-known pipe bands in Northern Germany and are a regular fixture at Falkensteinsee, forming an integral part of the program. The traditional march-in of the teams on Saturday morning from 10:30 AM — led by pipe bands — is considered a visual and acoustic highlight.
In addition to the sporting disciplines, a Viking village is set up on the grounds — historical tents, show fights, crafts, and camp life. On Sunday (May 31st), a medieval market expands the offerings, making the festival a pure family and exhibition format on the final day.
The venue is the Camping & Ferienpark Falkensteinsee in Ganderkesee — a facility with a swimming lake, campsites, and holiday homes. The rural location between Bremen and Oldenburg is particularly suitable for an open-air weekend with overnight stays on site: many teams and visitors camp by the lake for the three days.
On Friday (May 29th), the weekend begins with training from 6 PM. On Saturday (May 30th), the main competitions follow from the march-in at 10:30 AM, with an afterparty in the evening from 7:30 PM. Sunday (May 31st) is dedicated to the medieval market.
The tenth edition of the Highland Games Bremen am Falkensteinsee will take place from May 29th to 31st, 2026 at the Camping & Ferienpark Falkensteinsee in Ganderkesee. With 80 participating teams, it is the largest field of participants in the festival's history.
Program: Friday training from 6 PM, Saturday main competitions with march-in at 10:30 AM and afterparty from 7:30 PM, Sunday medieval market. Admission €5 (adults) / €3 (children). Power sponsor: Haferkamp Gerüstbau.
With 80 teams competing, the festival in 2026 has the largest number of participants to date. The teams come from all over Northern Germany as well as from the Netherlands, Denmark, and some from Great Britain. The competition is held in the classic Highland Games disciplines.
The Hamburg Caledonian Pipes & Drums and another pipe band will accompany the weekend — they will lead the march-in on Saturday morning and play at various stations throughout the day.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
